Jammu & Kashmir NRI Quota MBBS Admission

Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) is a closed state from the perspective of MBBS admissions. This means that students from other states cannot take admission in private medical colleges in the state.

Statistics of MBBS colleges in Jammu & Kashmir:

  • Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) has 8 government medical colleges with 985 seats.
  • There is 1 private medical college in Jammu called Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS JAMMU), with 100 seats.

Jammu & Kashmir has recently decided to participate in the All India Quota (AIQ) counselling. This means that:

  • Students from other states can get admission to J&K government medical colleges through AIQ counselling for 15% of the seats in government medical colleges.
  • The Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) will conduct state quota counselling for 85% of the government seats and all the seats in private medical colleges for J&K domiciles.

  • NRI certificate issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India or Indian Embassy Overseas under Ministry of External Affairs with holding of Indian Passport;

  • Undertaking of NRI duly attested by the legal authority of that country where sponsor is residing or Indian Embassy Overseas;
  • Copy of NRI Bank Account preferably in the country where the candidate is residing or of NRI Account in India; or Bank Statement of the Sponsor.
  • Copy of Indian Passport;
  • Copy of Income Tax Return filed in India, if any;
  • PAN Card, if any;
  • Domicile Certificate of the candidate belonging to UT of J&K.
  • Any other document as may be required by the Board for its satisfaction.

  • Students must belong to Indian origin and live or study in a foreign country.
  • Indian citizens’ children staying abroad for business or employment are also considered as NRI
  • Candidates who are born abroad but the parents are of Indian origin fall under the NRI category

MBBS Admission for NRI Quota: Process

NRI Quota MBBS Admission for eligible candidates began with the NEET UG examination, in which they must score qualifying marks. After the announcement of the results, the candidates have to register for the counselling process on the official website of MCC. Then the seats are allotted to the students who have scored higher in NEET UG Examination. Each state has a separate counselling procedure for NRI quota MBBS Admission.
