    Eligibility Criteria

    • At least one of the parents of the student must be an NRI and must ordinarily reside abroad as an NRI.

    Vacant NRI Seats According to the direction of the State Government, if NRI seats remain vacant due to non-availability of sufficient number of NRI candidates during or after round 2 off-line counselling, such vacant seats will be converted to management/general seats as the case may be. Looking to these directions, the round 2 off-line counselling for NRI seats will be carried out before exhausting the management seats of Government Society colleges.

    Punjab NRI Quota MBBS Admission

    Punjab has a large number of NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) settled abroad, and there is an NRI quota in government and private medical colleges in the state. There are a good number of NRI seats in government and private medical colleges in Punjab. The MBBS fee in Punjab for NRI students is lower than in other states.

    Eligibility criteria:

    • Candidates who want to apply for NRI quota seats must obtain a provisional eligibility/equivalency certificate from BFUHS, Faridkot, and qualify NEET-UG-2022. They must then apply on the prescribed proforma available on the website, along with the prescribed fee for seats under the NRI quota.
    • Only NRIs/children of NRIs who belong to the state of Punjab or NRIs/children of NRIs who belong to an Indian state other than Punjab are eligible to take admission in Punjab under the NRI quota. NRI-sponsored students are not allowed to take admission in Punjab under the NRI quota.

    Important points related to MBBS seats under the NRI quota in Punjab:

    • Students applying under the NRI quota must appear in person at BFUHS, Faridkot, for document verification. After document verification, students will be issued an eligibility certificate. Only students with an eligibility certificate will be allowed to participate in the NRI quota seat counselling.
    • The centralized counselling for NRI quota seats will be held before the counselling for other categories.
    • OCI/PIO candidates will only be considered for 15% of the NRI quota seats.
    • The preference for admission under the NRI category will be as follows:
      • NRIs/children of NRIs who originally belong to the state of Punjab.
      • NRIs/children of NRIs who originally belong to an Indian state other than Punjab.

    • Is carrying on a business or vocation outside India; or
    • For any other purpose, in such circumstances, as would indicate his intention to stay outside India for an uncertain period.

    Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) is a closed state from the perspective of MBBS admissions. This means that students from other states cannot take admission in private medical colleges in the state.
